Valencia to Host International Symposium on New Approaches to Combat Domestic Violence
Valencia, Spain, will be the venue for the International Symposium on New Approaches to Combat Domestic Violence, scheduled for June 3, 2025. The event is being organised by the Valencia Local Police, and other project partners will also contribute and be available for questions as part of the Horizon Europe project, IMPROVE. This symposium will bring together renowned experts, policymakers, and practitioners to discuss innovative strategies and solutions for addressing domestic violence in Europe.
A highlight of the symposium will be the presentation of the new EU directive on combating violence against women and domestic violence. High-level speakers will delve into the implications of the directive and its potential to drive policy and systemic change. In addition, the symposium will explore how cutting-edge technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), can be leveraged to detect, report, and prevent domestic violence, providing new avenues for intervention and support.
IMPROVE sets out to reinforce the fight against domestic violence by developing several tools to increase reporting and detection of domestic violence by empowering the victims to understand their rights to services and justice. Besides, it will support the police authorities, civil society organisations and other frontline responder organisations in enhancing their competencies to utilise innovative solutions. Moreover, this will enable them to accelerate the development and implementation of policies against domestic violence.
The main results of the project, the AinoAid™ chatbot, a conversational tool based on AI, and the European Training Platform on domestic violence will be presented to the audience.
The symposium will serve as a platform for stakeholders from across Europe to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and explore collaborative approaches to addressing this urgent societal issue. By highlighting the intersection of policy, technology, and frontline action, the event underscores the vital role of multidisciplinary efforts in combating domestic violence. Other sister projects of IMPROVE will also be participating.
